Elmo still in Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade after Kevin Clash resignation

elmo-thanksgiving-day-parade-2012-sesame-street-kevin-clash-.jpgDespite Kevin Clash having just resigned from his role as the voice of Elmo on "Sesame Street," the furry red monster will still take his rightful place aboard a float in the 2012 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade on Thursday (Nov. 22).

"Elmo will be joining his Muppet friends on the Sesame Street float with an alternate puppeteer bringing him to life," a rep for Macy's tells TMZ. "Current events have no bearing on Sesame's participation in the Parade and we are confident their world-renowned, family-friendly entertainment and educational programming will continue to bring kids and families joy for decades."

Clash resigned Tuesday after a second accuser, Cecil Singleton, came forward alleging he had a sexual relationship with Clash when Singleton was only 15 years old. This comes on the heels of the first accuser, Sheldon Stephens, claiming he and Clash had sex while Stephens was underage and then recanting the claim. Stephens later says he wasn't lying about his initial allegations and felt pressured to withdraw the claims.

The Sesame Workshop's statement following Clash's resignation reads, in part, "Unfortunately, the controversy surrounding Kevin's personal life has become a distraction that none of us want, and he has concluded that he can no longer be effective in his job and has resigned from Sesame Street."
