'Taken 2' punches the box office in the face for third-best October opening in history
"Taken 2" has taken moviegoers for $50 million, which is the third-best box office opening weekend for an October release in history. It's actually the top spot for a PG-13 movie -- only "Paranormal Activity" and "Jackass 3D," both rated R, had higher opening October weekends. Family fare "Hotel Transylvania" also continued a strong showing, earning just north of $26 million, and the female a capella comedy "Pitch Perfect" struck a chord for nearly $15 million.
In other notable numbers, "Perks of Being a Wallflower" expanded to 221 theaters nationwide and took in a respectable $1.5 million. It should continue to rise as it opens in more theaters across the country.
