Star Wars: Disney money to go to George Lucas charity

george-lucas-getty.jpgGeorge Lucas stands to profit around $4 billion -- yes, that's billion, not million -- from the sale of his Lucasfilm and its "Star Wars" franchise to Walt Disney Pictures.

That's a lot of Imperial Credit, and Lucas plans to put it to good use. THR reports the filmmaker plans to put most of the money into a foundation created to support educational issues.

"George Lucas has expressed his intention, in the event the deal closes, to donate the majority of the proceeds to his philanthropic endeavors," says a spokesperson for Lucasfilm.

The mouse house announced plans for Episode 7 with a target release date of 2015. More sequels are expected, with Lucas staying on as creative consultant.
