Justin Bieber emergency call actually a swatting prank

justin-bieber-911-prank-weapon-malibu-home-stolen-computer-tape-billboard-gi.jpgJustin Bieber is the latest celebrity to fall victim to a swatting prank, in which someone calls police to report a fake crime. According to the Los Angeles Times, the LA County Sheriff's Department's Malibu-Lost Hills station received an emergency call around 1:40 a.m. Wednesday (Oct. 10) to report a person with a weapon at Bieber's Calabasas home.

Sheriff's deputies responded to Bieber's home, and people on the property said they never called the authorities. The responding deputies determined that the call was a fake.

The emergency message came from a TTY device, typically used by a deaf person to text via the telephone -- the same sort of teletext method was used in the swatting prank at Ashton Kutcher's home on Oct. 3.

Back in August, police were also called to Miley Cyrus' home on a report of a shooting with hostages involved. The call was determined to be a hoax.
