'Horses and bayonets': Barack Obama's slam on Mitt Romney the presidential debate's best meme

barack-obama-presidential-debate-october-22-2012-gi.jpgDuring tonight's final presidential debate, Mitt Romney wanted to make a point that President Barack Obama's administration isn't showing the military the support it deserves. But Obama wasn't having any of it.

"You mention the Navy, for example, and the fact that we have fewer ships than we did in 1916," Obama said to Romney. "Well governor, we also have fewer horses and bayonets."

Zing!

PICS: Scenes from the third debate

"We have these things called aircraft carriers and planes land on them," Obama continued. "We have ships that go underwater, nuclear submarines."

Zing! Zing!

Obama added: "It's not a game of battleship where we're counting ships."

And... game over.

Whew! Frankly, we're grateful to the president for this one. We already forgot "Battleship" was a movie that opened and closed in the blink of an eye this summer, and we really didn't want to have to catch up with it on DVD just to understand defense spending.

UPDATE: You know it was inevitable: Here's a "Horses & Bayonets" tumblr and Twitter feed. You're welcome.
