Dennis Quaid and wife Kimberly are separating

Dennis Quaid's wife of eight years, Kimberly Buffington-Quaid, wants out of their marriage.

Buffington-Quaid has filed for legal separation, and divorce papers will follow once the couple meets California's six-month residency requirement to file for divorce, TMZ reports. They moved to the state over the summer, coinciding with the start of production on his CBS series "Vegas."

Kimberly is seeking sole physical and joint legal custody of the couple's 4-year-old twins. Dennis would have visitation rights. She also wants spousal support. Kimberly had initially filed divorce papers in March, but withdrew them two months later.

The couple married in 2004, three years after Quaid split from Meg Ryan. He also has another son, Jack, from his marriage to Ryan.
