Broadway resuming most shows following Hurricane Sandy

New York City is getting back on its feet following the devastation wreaked by Hurricane Sandy. The NBA is going forward with its Brooklyn game pitting the Nets against the Knicks, and Broadway also is finally reopening its doors.

The Broadway League announced Oct. 30 that "most matinee and evening performances will go on as scheduled Wednesday, October 31st." Those returning include "Wicked," "The Phantom of the Opera," "Once" Rock of Ages" and "Annie," though they probably should rename her little dog from "Sandy." Meanwhile, the matinee performances of "Evita," "Jersey Boys" and "Scandalous" remain cancelled, as do the evening shows of "The Lion King" and "Mary Poppins." In a statement, Broadway League Executive Director Charlotte St. Martin says, "For those theatregoers who are staying in hotels and can't get home, it's a great time to see a show. As always, the safety and security of theatregoers and employees is everyone's primary concern, so for those who can't get in to the city as a result of the suspension of public transportation by government authorities or additional safety precautions that were implemented, they should contact their point of purchase for questions about exchange or refund policies."
