Bret Easton Ellis comments on 'Fifty Shades of Grey' screenwriter Kelly Marcel: 'Dear God'

Kelly Marcel has been named the screenwriter of "Fifty Shades of Grey," and Bret Easton Ellis isn't too happy about it.

The American author made it known a while ago that he wanted to write the adaptation of the erotic novel, but learned back in August that he was no longer on the list of potential screenwriters. Though he took that news with grace, he wasn't so composed when he learned that Universal Pictures and Focus Features had hired Marcel.

"Kelly Marcel?!? KELLY MARCEL?!? Kelly Marcel is WRITING the script for "Fifty Shades of Grey"?!? THIS is the movie they want to make? ARGH," the "American Psycho" scribe writes.

And just to make it clear who he is talking about, Ellis continues, "Kelly Marcel: the creator of (gulp) 'Terra Nova' and a Mary Poppins bio-pic has been blessed by EL James and no one can stop her. Dear God."

For the time being, we're a little more optimistic about Marcel taking the project. After all, it could mean Tom Hardy could be cast as Christian Grey.
