'Angry Birds Star Wars' launches Nov. 8: Prepare for a 'pig-esque Vader'

angry-birds-star-wars-rovio.jpgIf you thought "Angry Birds Space" was the final frontier for those feathered pig hunters, think again. "Angry Birds Star Wars" blasts off on Nov. 8 and will be available for iOS, Android, Amazon Kindle Fire, Mac, PC, Windows Phone and Windows 8.

"This is the best Angry Birds game we've ever done," Peter Vesterbacka, CMO of Rovio Entertainment, which partnered up with LucasFilm for the new game, says in a statement. "It's the best parts of Angry Birds with all new cutting-edge gameplay set in in a galaxy far, far away. As a big 'Star Wars' fan myself, I'm really excited about this new universe. The Force is definitely strong with this one."

But don't just expect the birds and pigs to be wearing "Star Wars" costumes.

"They are not Angry Birds dressed up as Star Wars characters," Paul Southern, vice president of licensing and consumer products marketing for Lucasfilm Ltd., tells USA Today. "They are characters in their own right."

Red Bird will be transformed into Luke Skywalker circa "Star Wars: Episode IV: A New Hope," while the other birds will offer takes on Chewbacca, Princess Leia, Han Solo and Obi-Wan Kenobi.

The egg-stealing piggies will naturally be representing the dark side.

"You will see a pig-esque Vader and pig-esque stormtroopers," Southern says.
