'The Great Gatsby' gets new release date - May 10, 2013
Get ready, "Great Gatsby" fans: Warner Bros. has announced the new official release date for Baz Luhrmann's big 3-D adaptation of the F. Scott Fitzgerald novel after pulling it from the Christmas schedule. It'll now hit theaters on May 10, 2013.The movie was originally supposed to come out at Christmas, competing with "Les Miserables," but the studio pulled the film in favor of adding it to the summer schedule (likely because the ambitious film was taking a little longer to complete than originally predicted).
"Based on what we've seen, Baz Luhrmann's incredible work is all we anticipated and so much more," Dan Fellman, President of Domestic Distribution for Warner Bros. Pictures, said in a statement when the move was announced. "It truly brings Fitzgerald's American classic to life in a completely immersive, visually stunning and exciting way. We think moviegoers of all ages are going to embrace it, and it makes sense to ensure this unique film reaches the largest audience possible."
Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire and Carey Mulligan all star in the film. Check out the awesomely scored trailer below:
