'The Bachelorette's' Kasey Kahl pleads not guilty to assault

kasey-kahl-gi.jpgFormer "Bachelorette" and "Bachelor Pad" contestant Kasey Kahl has pleaded not guilty to charges of felony assault stemming from a bar fight in January.

Kahl was in court Friday (Aug. 31) in Fresno County, Calif., where he entered not guilty pleas to two counts of felony assault, one count of felony battery and one count of public intoxication.

His lawyer, Gerald Schwab, tells E! News that Kahl was trying to defend himself in the incident at a club in Fresno in January. Reports at the time claimed Kahl attacked a man outside the club, then punched the guy's girlfriend when she intervene. Kahl has claimed all along that he wasn't the aggressor.

"He is not doing well," Schwab says of Kahl. "He is upset that he is being charged simply by defending himself."

Kahl was on Ali Fedotowsky's season of "The Bachelorette" and is best remembered for telling her he would "guard and protect" her heart. He was also part of the second season of "Bachelor Pad" with then-girlfriend Vienna Girardi.
