Elisha Cuthbert and Dion Phaneuf are engaged

"Happy Endings," indeed: Actress Elisha Cuthbert and her boyfriend, NHL player Dion Phaneuf, are engaged.

Phaneuf, 27, the captain of the Toronto Maple Leafs, propsed to Cuthbert, 29, over the weekend, Us Weekly reports. They've been dating for four years.

The couple celebrated Sunday night (Sept. 2) at a surprise party with about 40 family and friends at a restaurant on Prince Edward Island, where Cuthbert showed off her ring. Phaneuf made the reservation a week earlier but didn't tip anyone off as to the occasion.

Cuthbert, who grew up in Canada, was previously engaged to Trace Ayala. She also dated a couple other NHL players, Sean Avery and Mike Komisarek, prior to her current relationship.

Season 3 of Cuthbert's ABC comedy, "Happy Endings," premieres on Oct. 23.
