Bonnie Franklin of 'One Day at a Time' diagnosed with cancer

Actress Bonnie Franklin (above, middle), who is best known as playing divorced mother of two on the hit CBS comedy "One Day at Time" from 1975 to 1984, has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, a family spokesperson tells USA Today.

Franklin is currently undergoing treatment and is not releasing any further details at this time. She has largely been absent from the acting world since "One Day at a Time" went off the air, but she did appear on an episode of "Hot in Cleveland" last year, which reunited her with her "One Day" co-star Valerie Bertinelli. Bertinelli and Mackenzie Phillips played Franklin's two daughters on the show. Franklin was nominated for both an Emmy and a Golden Globe for her work on the sitcom.

Pancreatic cancer has a notoriously poor prognosis -- the survival rate is not great, largely because early stage of the cancer generally don't present symptoms and by the time it is diagnosed, it is generally pretty far along. It was the cause of death of actors Joan Crawford, Rex Harrison and Patrick Swayze, among countless others.
