2012 Democratic National Convention: Kerry Washington loves 'we the people,' urges people to vote

kerry-washington-democratic-national-convention.jpgActress Kerry Washington spoke at the 2012 Democratic National Convention to urge people out there to vote and to keep expanding the phrase from our Constitution "we the people."

"I am so grateful to be here with you tonight. I'm here not just as an actress, but as a woman, an African-American, a granddaughter of immigrants who came through Ellis Island, a person who could not have afforded college without the help of student loans, and as one of millions of volunteers working to re-elect President Obama," intros Washington.

"So many people have struggled so that you and I, all of us, could have a voice in this great democracy, and live up to those first three words of our Constitution -- 'we the people.' Washington continues. "I love that phrase, I really do, so much. Because throughout our country's history, we've expanded that phrase to include more and more of us and that's what it means to move forward and that is what this election is about and that is why we cannot sit on the sidelines."
