'Thor 2' casts Christopher Eccleston as its villain

Thor has found his new nemesis: British actor Christopher Eccleston will battle Chris Hemsworth in "Thor: The Dark World" as Malekith the Accursed, the official villain of "Thor 2."

The sequel to the 2011 movie will find Eccleston playing the ruler of the Dark Elves of Svartalfheim, who "clashes mightily" with everyone's favorite hammer-wielding superhero, Deadline reports.

Alan Taylor will direct. Eccleston played Dr. Who in the first season of the rebooted sci-fi franchise, and has appeared in movies like "Gone in 60 Seconds," "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" and "28 Days Later."
