Rage Against the Machine doesn't like Paul Ryan liking them

It's always complicated when a person's politics don't match their musical preferences. That became very clear when Republican vice-presidential candidate Paul Ryan picked Rage Against the Machine as one of his favorite bands. Paul Ryan is not, however, one of Rage Against the Machine's favorite politicians.

Tom Morello, the guitarist for the famously left-leaning band, says Rage and Ryan have very little in common. "Paul Ryan's love of Rage Against the Machine is amusing, because he is the embodiment of the machine that our music has been raging against for two decades," Morello writes in Rolling Stone .

The musician's rather humorous editorial continues by theorizing about what could possibly have attracted the Republican to Rage Against the Machine's anti-imperialist and anti-corporate message. "Don't mistake me," Morello writes. "I clearly see that Ryan has a whole lotta 'rage' in him. ... This unbridled rage against those who have the least is a cornerstone of the Romney-Ryan ticket."

How does Rage Against the Machine even know Paul Ryan's musical preferences? A New York Times article published on Monday (Aug. 13) mentioned the band as a Ryan favorite when highlighting the politician's Generation X credentials.

Judging from the reaction, Ryan maybe should have picked another band. Megadeth, perhaps?
