Phyllis Diller dies at 95

phyllis-diller.jpgPhyllis Diller has died, TMZ reports. The legendary comedian was 95.

Known for her cackling laugh and trademark long cigarette holder, Diller got her start in show business in the early 1950s alongside Bob Hope. The two costarred in 23 TV specials and three films, and she toured with him as part of his USO troupe during the Vietnam War.

She appeared in a number of films -- including her debut in 1961's "Splendor in the Grass" -- but Diller was best known for her stand-up comedy. Her wisecracking, flamboyant personality made her a popular guest on talk shows and game shows -- most memorably "Hollywood Squares" -- throughout her decades-long career.

Although Diller suffered a number of health problems in recent years, including a heart attack and neck surgery, she appeared alongside Joan Rivers, Joy Behar and Kathy Griffin in January 2011's "Queens of Comedy," a special edition of Anderson Cooper's "AC360."
