Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise divorce case closed

Less than two months after news broke that  Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise were ending their five-year marriage, the couple's divorce case has been closed, reports the Associated Press.

Records filed in a New York City court say the case was closed on Monday (Aug. 21), though no further details were available.

In July, Holmes and Cruise reached an agreement about the divorce settlement, in turn avoiding a public trial.

"Neither one of them wants this to be hashed out in public," a source told People magazine at the time.

The couple married in November 2006 and have one daughter, Suri, who is 6 years old.
