2012 Summer Olympics medal count: U.S. might have it sewn up

us-womens-soccer-gold-medal.jpgWith only a couple days left at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, the United States has taken a lead in the total medal count and the gold medal column over China. The U.S. has 90 total medals to China's 80 and has re-taken the gold medal lead, 39 to 37.

The reason the race might be all but over is that the games are down to sports that more heavily favor the U.S., such as basketball, BMX and track and field. The Chinese athletes just don't have as many events left as the U.S. athletes do.

Highlights for Friday (Aug. 10) include finals for the women's 4x100-meter relay, the men's 4x400-meter relay and the women's 1500m in track and field; a men's semifinal in basketball against Argentina; and the start of rhythmic gymnastics.
