China has 17 gold, nine silver and four bronze, while the U.S. has 13 gold, eight silver and nine bronze. And more countries continue to join the double-digit medal total. After Day 4, there were only Japan and France had over ten medals total, but now Germany, South Korea, Russia, Italy and Great Britain join the list.
There are 49 countries that have medaled at least once out of the roughly 200 total countries participating in the XXX Olympiad, so nearly a quarter. That's a nice distribution of the Olympic spirit and the games aren't even half over yet.
