2012 Summer Olympics Closing Ceremony: One Direction brings the current pop scene
The 2012 Summer Olympics Closing Ceremony spanned the musical decades, with artists like The Who to Pet Shop Boys to a Spice Girls reunion. And the current musical landscape was definitely well represented by One Direction. The boy band finished third on the U.K. "X Factor" in 2010, but has gone on to become a worldwide sensation with kids today. The group performed on a flatbed truck, flanked by backup dancers, for a rendition of their huge hit "What Makes You Beautiful."
The One Direction boys released their first studio album in 2011, titled "Up All Night," and have a follow-up album set to debut in late 2012 (it is as of yet untitled). They are also planning a worldwide tour for 2013.
What did you think of their Closing Ceremony performance?
