'The Dark Knight Rises' shooting: James Holmes 'did not resist' arrest
Law enforcement sources say gunman James Holmes, 24, was dressed for battle in a bullet-resistant vest and gas mask Friday (July 20) morning but didn't resist capture by Aurora, Colo., police.Frank Fania, a police spokesman, tells CNN, "He did not resist. He did not put up a fight."
Holmes is allegedly responsible for killing 12 and wounding 38 -- including a 3-month-old baby -- in a packed Aurora, Colo., movie theater showing the new Batman movie "The Dark Knight Rises."
Holmes reportedly had at least four guns -- an "AK type" rifle, a shotgun and two handguns -- and also used tear gas inside the theater. Following his arrest, Holmes told police there was a bomb at his apartment. Aurora police Chief Dan Oates tells CNN that upon arriving at the apartment, they found a "very sophisticated" booby trap inside.
ABC News contacted a San Diego woman who identified herself as Holmes' mother -- she was later identified by other outlets as Arlene Holmes.
"You have the right person," she says, speaking on instinct. "I need to call the police ... I need to fly out to Colorado."
San Diego police are providing security for the woman and her family.
UPDATE: The injured toll has been upped to 71 people shot.
