Sherman Hemsley from 'The Jeffersons' dead at 74

sherman-hemsley-dead-obit-gi.jpgActor Sherman Hemsley, who played George Jefferson on "The Jeffersons," died at his home in El Paso, Texas, on Tuesday (July 24) from natural causes, reports TMZ.

Hemsley, 74, initially became famous for playing Jefferson on "All in the Family," which spun off the hit series "The Jeffersons." He also starred in the show "Amen" and voiced a triceratops named B.P. Richfield on the '90s series "Dinosaurs." Hemsley did numerous guest stints on shows over the years, including "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" and "Sister, Sister."

In addition to acting, Hemsley was a professional singer, releasing the single "Ain't That a Kick in the Head" in 1989.

Hemsley was not married and had no children.
