Newly-single Katie Holmes returning to Broadway

katie-holmes-no-wedding-ring-gi.jpgMore change is in the air for Katie Holmes, who recently served husband Tom Cruise with divorce papers. She's set to join the cast of Broadway play "Dead Accounts."

She'll play a 30-something woman who is still living with her parents in Cincinnati when her brother arrives home bearing tons of money and a missing wife. The Theresa Rebeck-penned play (Rebeck was one of "Smash's" co-creators) is set to open sometime in fall 2012, though a firm date hasn't yet been set. Jack O'Brien is attached to direct, according to The Wrap.

Holmes made her Broadway debut -- to middling reviews -- in 2008 when she starred opposite John Lithgow and Dianne Wiest in Arthur Miller's "All My Sons."

What do you think Zappers: Will Katie's career re-ignite now that she's split from Tom?
