Jason Kidd charged with DUI after automobile accident

The newly-acquired New York Knicks point guard Jason Kidd has been charged with drunk driving after he crashed his SUV into a telephone pole early Sunday morning (July 15) in the Hamptons, the popular seaside vacation area for wealthy New Yorkers, reports the New York Times.

Kidd, 39, sustained only minor injuries in the single-car accident and faces a misdemeanor charge of driving while intoxicated. He was treated at a local hospital and later released after an arraignment. His blood alcohol level was not immediately released.

According to a statement from the Southampton Town Police, they found Kidd's 2010 Cadillac Escalade just before 2 a.m. local time in the woods. TMZ has published a report that says witnesses saw Kidd being helped out of an East Hampton nightclub prior to the accident.
