Harry Potter book club: J.K. Rowling will appear for live webcast as part of online reading group

harry-potter-book-club-jk-rowling-pics-gi.jpg"Harry Potter" author J.K. Rowling launched an online book club for young readers and teachers on Tuesday (July 31) and is scheduled to appear in a live webcast from Scotland in October to talk about Potter's wizarding world with her fans.

"Scholastic has been in conversation with educators, librarians and other book lovers about ideas for bringing the Harry Potter books to new readers in exciting and different ways," Ellie Berger, president of Scholastic Trade, says in a statement. "The Harry Potter Reading Club is a direct response to that feedback and provides an entry point through which the thrill of these books can be shared with new generations of Harry Potter fans both within and beyond the classroom."

The live webcast from Rowling's hometown of Edinburgh will be at noon EDT on Oct. 11 on the reading club's website. According to Reuters, it will be the author's first opportunity since 2007 to interact with her young readers and discuss Pottermore, Rowling's interactive Harry Potter website launched in April.
