Daniel Tosh apologizes for directing rape jokes at comedy club audience member

daniel-tosh-nbc.jpgOn Friday, Daniel Tosh (of "Tosh.0") performed a comedy set at the Laugh Factory and offended one of the audience members when he suggested that rape jokes are "always funny." According to an account that the audience member posted on Tumblr, she decided to speak out, and called out to the stage.

"Actually, rape jokes are never funny," she shouted at him, at which point, according to her account, Tosh replied, "Wouldn't it be funny if that girl got raped by like, 5 guys right now? Like right now? What if a bunch of guys just raped her?"

Her account received mixed responses, ranging from supportive to condescending. One loud voice of support was that of TV actress Martha Plimpton, who tweeted Tosh on Tuesday, "
I can't wait to hear your "lynching is funny!" bit. Or would that be a little TOO dangerous?"

Tosh, linking to the Tumblr, apologized for his actions via Twitter. "all the out of context misquotes aside, i'd like to sincerely apologize," he wrote. "the point i was making before i was heckled is there are awful things in the world but you can still make jokes about them. ‪#deadbabies"
