Chris Brown not arrested at BET Awards for gun possession

On Sunday evening, Twitter was abuzz with news that Chris Brown was arrested backstage at the BET Awards for illegal gun possession. Social media swarmed with the rumor that Brown brought a gun to the show as a precaution given his clash with romantic rival Drake.

Connecticut-based hip hop radio station Hot 93.7 even tweeted a confirmation:

Fortunately for Brown, however, it's not true. Zap2it has confirmed that Brown was not, in fact, arrested at the telecast -- and Drake didn't actually attend the awards show, so there was no chance of an altercation. When the news hit Twitter, Brown was backstage at the Shrine Auditorium preparing to perform.

Brown currently remains on supervised probation connected with his 2009 attack of then-girlfriend Rihanna. His probation officer, located in his home state of Virginia, reports that Brown has been cooperative and compliant, and has passed all of his required drug tests.
