2012 Summer Olympics medal count: China still leads the U.S.
After two days of competition, China is still on top of the medal count at the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London. The Chinese have earned 12 total medals, including six gold, four silver and two bronze. The United States is right on China's tail, though, with 11 medals (three gold, five silver and three bronze). There are 15 different medal events on Monday (July 30), so perhaps by day's end the U.S. will have taken the lead. So far, China has led the entire two days in the medal count.
There are 29 other countries on the leaderboard for medals, with Italy in third with eight medals and South Korea and Japan tied for fourth at five medals apiece.
