Venus Williams is out after Wimbledon's first round
For the first time in 15 years, tennis star Venus Williams won't be advancing at Wimbledon after she logged a disappointing loss to Elena Vesnina. Williams will go home instead of logging another Wimbledon title -- she's a five-time singles champion. "I've lost before, so I know how to deal with it," Williams tells the New York Times. "You know, that's basically how I feel right now. Simple as that."
Williams lost 6-1, 6-3 to Vesnina. It's her worst loss at the tournament and, reports Yahoo! Sports, only her fourth first-round loss in her Grand Slam career.
Next up, the 32-year-old tennis sensation will be Olympic competition, which will be played on the same courts as Wimbledon. And she's not ruling out a future return to Wimbledon.
"Life is challenging but I'm always up for a challenge," she said.
