Robin Roberts thanks 'GMA' viewers for support in wake of MDS diagnosis

robin-roberts-MDS-getty.jpg"Good Morning America" co-host Robin Roberts revealed Monday (June 11) that she has been diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS), a rare blood disorder that will require a bone marrow transplant as treatment in a couple months. Tuesday on "GMA" Roberts expressed her gratitude for the outpouring of support she has received in the wake of the news.

"I slept like a baby for the first time since my diagnosis," says Roberts. She also thanked the viewers for their "comfort and support."

Roberts also revealed that she heard from First Lady Michelle Obama and Ann Romney, wife of Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney. Roberts said she and Mrs. Romney "had a lovely conversation" - Ann Romney has faced her own health challenges with multiple sclerosis.

And the First Lady tweeted, "Barack and I have you in our prayers. We believe in you and thank you for bringing awareness and hope to others. -mo."
