Michael Phelps posts best time in the world in 2012 in 200 Butterfly at Olympic trials

Michael Phelps swam his signature event at the 2012 Olympic swimming trials Thursday night (June 28) in Omaha, Neb. - the 200 Butterfly, the event Phelps has swum at three previous Olympic games, finishing fifth in Sydney when he was only 15 years old.

Thursday night Phelps posted a time of 1:53.65, which is good for the best time in the world for 2012. The World Record, held by Phelps, is 1:51.51. After the race, Phelps had this to say:

"I think the biggest thing ... this is going to be my fourth Olympics in this race, so it's been a pretty special race for me. To be able to put together an alright time tonight is decent, but I think it's going to take more than that to win a gold medal."

Tyler Clary also qualified in the 200 Fly, finishing two seconds behind Phelps. This is the first event Clary has qualified in, so it's his first trip to the Olympics. Needless to say, in his post-race interview, he was pretty excited.
