Margaret Cho: I don't 'want to have a retard' baby

Margaret Cho is known for her very frank talk in her stand-up, her books and in interviews. But she's been raising a few eyebrows for what she said on a recent episode of "Watch What Happens: Live" with host Andy Cohen on Bravo.

When talking about wanting to be a mother, she cites how hard pregnancy can be when you're older (the comedian is 43). Cho says, "My period comes like twice a month. My eggs are jumping ship. Seriously, they're like, 'the last one out's a retard."

"I get worried about that, as an older woman, I don't necessarily want to have a retard ... You want your kid to have the best chance at life. I'm trying [to get pregnant]. It's hard for a lesbian."

In case you're wondering what exactly Cho is referring is to, we believe she's referring to children with Down Syndrome. The likelihood that a woman will have a child with Down Syndrome increases dramatically with maternal age. According to the National Institution of Child Health, a woman of 42 has a 1 in 60 chance of having a child with Down Syndrome, as opposed to a woman under the age of 30, whose chances are 1 in 1,000.

Interestingly, Cho condemned comedian Tracy Morgan a year ago for what she called "hate speech" during an anti-gay rant. Do you think she owes an apology to the parents of handicapped children for her own use of "hate speech"?
