Lauryn Hill facing Federal tax charges
Former Fugee Lauryn Hill is in trouble with the tax man. The singer failed to pay taxes on more than $1.6 million in income over three years, according to the U.S. Attorney's office in New Jersey.Hill failed to file tax returns for three years -- 2005, 2006 and 2007 -- say prosecutors. Her primary source of income is royalties from songs and movies, but she also apparently owns and operates four corporations, reports the Associated Press: Creations Music, Inc., Boogie Tours, Inc., L.H. Productions 2001, Inc. and Studio 22, Inc.
Each of the tax charges against Hill carries a maximum penalty of one year in prison and up to a $100,000 fine. She's scheduled to appear before a judge to answer the charges on June 29.
