Justin Bieber helps Matt Lauer join Twitter

During his interview with Justin Bieber on Friday's (June 15) "Today Show," host Matt Lauer brought up the power of social media and the internet, which no one knows better than Bieber. He also revealed that he has no Twitter followers - because he's never joined Twitter. Until today.

Lauer asked Bieber to help him join Twitter and to tweet as Bieber on Matt's account. Matt was telling the Biebs what to say, but instead Bieber tweeted for Lauer's first tweet, "Hello. Everyone go buy Justin bieber's album #believe coming out June 19th."

Heh.

Bieber then tweeted, "If u want to find out Justins first song hes performing tweet me."

Lauer has since added a few tweets of his own, including, "Justin is a great sport! Concert will be amazing!" and then he also tweeted his very first picture, which is below.

Talk about the power of social media. We were watching this happen live on "Today" and we went to Matt's Twitter page. When we got there, he had 65 followers. In the 15-20 seconds it took us to sign in so we could start following him, that number jumped to over 61,000. As of 10:05 ET, Lauer has nearly 73,000 followers.
