David Arquette has bar mitzvah in Israel
At 40 years old, David Arquette is finally a grown man under Jewish religious law. On a recent trip to Israel, Arquette had an impromptu bar mitzvah ceremony at Jerusalem's Western Wall."I had my bar mitzvah today at the wall," tweets Arquette. "Finally I'm a man."
Arquette was in Israel filming his Travel Channel show "Mile High." He attended a ceremony and then was asked if he would like to have one as well.
"He was very emotional, saying he was happy to be part of the chain of the Jewish people," Shmuel Rabinowitz, the rabbi of the Western Wall, who conducted the ceremony, tells the Associated Press. "I'm very pleased to see a man who is returning to his roots."
Arquette's mother was born Jewish. His father a converted Muslim. Rabinowitz says Arquette was ashamed at his lack of knowledge about Judaism.
