'American Idol' Phillip Phillips undergoes kidney stone surgery

phillip-phillips-kidney-surgery-gett.jpg"American Idol" winner Phillip Philips finally was able to undergo surgery to remove the massive kidney stones that had plagued his health all season on "Idol," reports TMZ.

The 21-year-old singer out of Leesburg, Georgia had a 6-and-a-half hour surgery in Los Angeles Wednesday (June 6) to remove the kidney stones that were so large, he never would have been able to pass them on his own. He is recovering nicely now.

All season, Phillips was in and out of the hospital in between performance days on "Idol," which is why he was absent from a lot of the Ford Music Videos the Idols had to shoot each week. But the surgery would have taken him out of the competition, so they delayed it until the season was over.

We wish Phillip a speedy recovery.
