Molly Ringwald: Jon Cryer's Duckie in 'Pretty in Pink' was gay

Molly Ringwald's getting geared up for her character Anne Juergens' big coming out party in a lesbian storyline on ABC Family's "The Secret Life of the American Teenager." But it's the secret life of a John Hughes' character from one of Ringwald's trifecta of '80s teen films -- "Pretty in Pink" -- that's a tad more intriguing.

"Duckie [played by Jon Cryer] doesn't know he's gay. I think he loves Andie in the way that [my gay best friend] always loved me," Ringwald tells Out.com.

Apparently, two endings were shot for the iconic film -- the one we all know in which Andie (Ringwald) and Blane (Andrew McCarthy) are kissing in the street at prom and one in which Andie ends up with Cryer's Duckie.

"That ending fell so flat -- it bombed at all the screenings," Ringwald says. "I didn't realize it then -- I just knew that my character shouldn't end up with him, because we didn't have that sort of chemistry. If John [Hughes] was here now, and I could talk to him, I think that he would completely acknowledge that."
