Box Office: 'What to Expect When You're Expecting' and 'Battleship' sink at the box office Friday

The newcomers to the weekend box office did not fare well in the face of "The Avengers," which wins Friday night for the third week in a row, earning $15.3 million for an easy first place. "Battleship" opens to $9 million, which only puts it on pace for a $25 million opening weekend - not as much as was hoped for from the board game-inspired action movie.

"The Dictator" is third with $5.5 million and "What to Expect When You're Expecting" iss fourth with an anemic $4.4 million, which only puts the star-studded pregnancy movie on pace for a $12 million opening weekend.

"Dark Shadows" took in just $3.8 million for the start of its second weekend at the box office - not exactly what was hoped for from this Tim Burton-Johnny Depp collaboration either.
