Alanis Morissette: 17-month-old son can breastfeed as long as he wants
Alanis Morissette isn't ready to pose on the cover of Time with her child firmly attached to her breast, but she is admitting that she's a fan of "attachment parenting" and plans to breastfeed her 17-month-old son Ever for as long as he's into it.She also admits in a "GMA" interview that she and husband Mario "MC Souleye" Treadway practice a skin-on-skin philosophy in which either she or Treadway are in constant physical contact with Ever and share a family bed with him.
"I know some kids who have weaned naturally at two years," says Morissette. "Some wean a year or two later. It's up to the child."
What if Ever wants to breastfeed at five or six-years old?" asks interviewer Cecilia Vega.
"Fine," says Morissette. "Whatever he wants."
She also adds that it isn't for everyone.
"I am in a privileged position where I can afford the time and pay for the resources that would support this kind of lifestyle," she says. "Not everyone can do this."
