White Sox pitcher Philip Humber throws perfect game

Chicago White Sox pitcher Phil Humber threw the first perfect game in the major leagues since 2010 during Saturday's (April 21) matchup against the Seattle Mariners. 

The 29-year-old Humber is an unlikely member of the perfect-game club -- he's the 21st player to join -- and is a relative unknown, earning a little more than the league minimum of $480,000 a year and playing for his fourth major league team in seven years.

The final pitch of the game came with some controversy. Mariners shortstop Brendan Ryan was called out on a checked swing on a pitch that would have been ball four and thus broken up the perfect game.

The White Sox beat the Mariners with a score of 4-0.
