'The Avengers' clip: Thor and Iron Man duke it out

In the world of "The Avengers," the action in this newly released clip almost qualifies as a meet-cute.

We're in a forest, and Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) are not exactly making good first impressions on one another. They rage on and on, a bolt from Thor's hammer only giving extra juice to Iron Man's armor and a head-butt from Iron Man having little effect on the Norse god.

Trees fall, mountains crumble, and the two alpha males pretty much fight each other to a draw before we cut to an "Avengers" TV spot. We're guessing that they'll work out their differences (more or less, anyway) by the third act, but as a pure action scene, this works rather well.

"The Avengers" hits theaters on May 4.
