Miley Cyrus movie 'LOL' gets limited release
Stars Miley Cyrus and Demi Moore surely aren't laughing at this news: Lionsgate has downgraded their movie "LOL" to a limited release. The English-language adaptation of the popular 2008 French film will premiere in just seven cities in the United States on May 4, reports the LA Times.Additionally, marketing for the movie is being handled by Lionsgate's home entertainment division, not its theatrical marketing team, but we suppose Cyrus and Moore should count themselves lucky -- the film could have found its way straight to DVD if not for a technicality in the contract.
"I really thought this movie could be universal," filmmaker Lisa Azuelos, who wrote and directed the American and French versions of the films, tells the LA Times. "Usually teen movies are tender or scary or have vampires in them, but they're never realistic. This story isn't too dirty and not too stupid."
The PG-13 movie about teenage romance in an age of texting was supposed to be Cyrus' big break into more mature roles, but instead has just left her -- and probably others -- asking, "WTF?"
Do you think "LOL" deserves a nationwide release?
