Mega Millions mess at Maryland McDonald's: Alleged winner claims her ticket not from work pool
A Mega Millions mess is brewing in Maryland, where one of the three winning tickets is embroiled in some controversy. According to the New York Post, Mirlande Wilson, a McDonald's worker in Westport, went in on a pool with a group of co-workers to buy tickets, but claims her winning ticket was one bought separately - and she has no intention of sharing the money."We had a group plan, but I went and played by myself. [The 'winning' ticket] wasn't on the group plan. I was in the group, but this was separate. The winning ticket was a separate ticket," says Wilson.
It sounds like Wilson took the money from the McDonald's workers and bought the tickets. The tickets she bought, plus a list of the workers in on the pool, were put in an office safe. But then the night of the drawing, Birul Desai, the owner of the McDonald's, gave Wilson $5 to buy five more tickets and she did, then took them home with her.
Wilson insists the winning ticket was not from that second batch. She also called her co-workers, screaming, "I won! I won!" after the drawing.
Co-worker Suleiman Osman Husein says, "She can't do this to us! We each paid $5. She took everybody's money!"
A clerk at the 7-Eleven where Wilson purchased the tickets has doubts about the story at all, since lottery officials have reviewed the surveillance footage and believe a man bought the winning ticket.
