'Dirty Dancing' hotel fire destroys Catskills landmark

dirty-dancing-kellermans-mountain-lake-hotel-fire.jpgA Catskills condominium complex that was formerly known as Brown's Hotel went up in flames on Saturday (April 14), taking with it the inspiration for the 1987 movie "Dirty Dancing." The Patrick Swayze-Jennifer Grey movie about a rich teenager who falls for a rebellious dance pro was set at the fictional Kellerman's.

No one was killed or injured in the blaze that the Times Herald-Record is calling the "largest fire in Catskills history." The structure dates from 1944 and was reportedly a favorite venue for comedian Jerry Lewis.

Although set in the Catskills, "Dirty Dancing" was actually filmed in two locations: North Carolina's Lake Lure and Mountain Lake Hotel in Pembroke, Virginia.
