U.S. Olympic uniforms: 10 designers we'd choose over Ralph Lauren
On Thursday (March 22), the U.K. unveiled their 2012 Summer Olympics uniforms -- designed by none other than red-hot British designer Stella McCartney. The U.S., too, has a big-name designer on its side: Ralph Lauren. We know it's too late to shift gears, but Zap2it kind of wishes the U.S. -- in the spirit of the Olympics -- had gone with a team of designers to bring a new, fresh look to our 800+ athletes. Especially since, according to Forbes, Lauren has already done the job twice for past Olympics.
Lauren's look for the Olympians? See above -- vintage R.L. Yawn.
We think this team of fab American designers could give us a fresher look:
Marc Jacobs: He's like our version of Stella McCartney and we should fight fire with fire.
Christian Siriano: If he can tackle Christina Hendricks' rack, he can tackle Olympic uniforms.
Gwen Stefani: Both L.A.M.B. and Harajuku Lovers are young and playful, just like the Olympics.
Zac Posen: He's one of First Lady Michelle Obama's favorite designers. That should count for something.
Kate Spade: Surely the Olympians need smart, stylish bags to tote their equipment around in.
Diane Von Furstenberg: The women's swim team appears poolside in classic DVF wrap dresses atop matching suits. LOVE.
Vera Wang: Because she knows how to make a statement without shouting.
Calvin Klein: His clean, minimalist designs are perfect for sports.
Bill Blass: Because old school American design should be represented, but not by Lauren again.
Rachel Zoe: A controversial choice, we know, but maybe what the team needs is a little input from a celeb stylist.
