'Perks of Being a Wallflower': Stephen Chbosky gets PG-13 rating on appeal

logan-lerman-perks-summit.jpgThe highly anticipated film adaptation of "Perks of Being a Wallflower" was recently slapped with an R rating by the MPAA, due to "teen drug and alcohol use, and some sexual references" -- no surprise, if you've read Stephen Chbosky's novel.

Summit Entertainment and Chbosky, who also wrote and directed the movie, decided to appeal to the MPAA courts in an attempt to get the rating reduced to PG-13 -- an important selling point for high-school-themed movies to draw in larger audiences. And they won!

The film, which stars Emma Watson, Logan Lerman, Kate Walsh, Nina Dobrev, and Mae Whitman, among others, is now rated PG-13. The MPAA cites "
mature thematic material, drug and alcohol use, sexual content including references, and a fight - all involving teens" for the rating.
