Miley Cyrus calls on Twitter to regulate threats and bullying

Given the prevalence of cyber bullying in high schools and colleges today, we're a little surprised that Miley Cyrus is the first celebrity who has spoken up and called on Twitter -- the actual platform -- to monitor abuse.

Cyrus has recently received a barrage of hate tweets, including death threats, from twitter user "TheCyrusSlut."

The account has since been hacked by a Cyrus fan, who deleted the offensive messages to Cyrus that called her "f***ing hideous," and raged that she dressed like "white trash." (This, just hours before she donned a Robert Cavalli dress and headed to Sir Elton John's Oscar viewing party.)

Before the tweets were deleted, Cyrus responded. "U have nothing better 2 do than hate? That saddens me. Im surrounded by love Im sorry 4 whatever happened 2 make u so bitter," she wrote. When a fan sent her some words of support, Cyrus wrote, "I wont tolerate someone telling me 2 die. I think Twitter needs to take some responsibility and make it a safe environment!"
