Beware the Ides of March: Here's why

ciaran-hinds.jpgMarch 15 is a day that will forever live in infamy thanks to William Shakespeare and his fictional warning to Julius Caesar: "Beware the Ides of March."

The warning turned out to be apt for the Roman ruler who was, history has it, stabbed 23 times on this day in 44 B.C. by a dissatisfied Roman Senate that included his best friend, Brutus. Interested parties should make haste to find a copy of HBO's "Rome" -- the short-lived series starring Kevin McKidd, Ray Stevenson and James Purefoy that manages to both entertain and provide eye candy for candy lovers of all stripes.

But, March 15 isn't all doom and gloom. Per Wikipedia, here are some other events that occurred on the day:

-- 1820: Maine became the 23rd U.S. state.
-- 1906: Rolls Royce Limited is incorporated.
-- 1985: The first Internet domain (symbolics.com) is registered.
-- 1963: Bret "Rock of Love" Michaels born
-- 1975: Eva Longoria, Will.i.am born.
-- 1985: Kellan Lutz born.

It's also, of course, the title of George Clooney's 2011 movie co-starring Ryan "Hey Girl" Gosling.
