Anchor Sue Simmons cut after 32 years

Warning: Video is NSFW on account of a curse word.

Sue Simmons, the beloved New York WNBC anchor who gave us that little gem of a YouTube sensation almost four years ago, has been booted from her station after more than 30 years, reports the New York Post.

Last week, the station told Simmons her contract would not be renewed, and June will be the end for her. The Post reports that Simmons, 68, is the top-paid anchorwoman at any local station in the country. Chuck Scarborough, Simmons co-anchor, is also 68 and has been given three more years on his contract.

In January, Simmons was removed from the 6 o'clock news, joining Scarborough only for the 11 p.m. slot.

Did her cursing blunder from 2008 really have any bearing on her being let go? Is this a case of blatant sexism? Or is something else at work here?
